10 Creative Ways to Teach the Fruits of the Spirit to Kids
Discover engaging activities, games, and printable resources to help children understand and memorize the nine Fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23.

Teaching children about the Fruits of the Spirit is one of the most important things we can do as Christian parents and educators. These nine attributes—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—form the foundation of a Christ-like character.
But let's be honest: keeping kids engaged with spiritual concepts can be challenging. That's why we've compiled these 10 creative, hands-on activities that make learning about the Fruits of the Spirit fun and memorable.
1. Fruit of the Spirit Tree Craft
Create a large tree on bulletin board paper and have children add paper fruits labeled with each spiritual fruit. As they learn about each one, they can add leaves with examples of how to practice that fruit in daily life.
2. Memory Verse Cards
Our free printable memory verse cards feature beautiful illustrations and the full Galatians 5:22-23 passage broken into bite-sized pieces. Perfect for weekly memorization.
3. Role-Playing Scenarios
Present everyday situations where children must decide how to respond using a specific fruit. "Your brother takes your toy without asking—how would you show patience and kindness?"
4. Fruit Salad Object Lesson
Bring in real fruits representing each spiritual fruit and make a fruit salad together. Discuss how each fruit contributes to a complete, healthy life—just like the Fruits of the Spirit.
5. Coloring Pages with Discussion
Our Fruits of the Spirit Activity Pack includes detailed coloring pages for each fruit. Use coloring time as an opportunity for deeper conversations about what each fruit means.
6. Fruit of the Week Focus
Dedicate one week to each fruit. Start Monday with an introduction, practice it throughout the week, and celebrate on Friday with a special activity or treat.
7. Scripture Song
Set Galatians 5:22-23 to a simple melody. Children learn faster through music, and they'll carry this verse with them for life.
8. Character Journaling
For older children, provide journals where they can write about times they practiced (or struggled with) each fruit. Our printable journal pages make this easy.
9. Good Deed Challenge
Create a challenge chart where children track acts of kindness, patience, and other fruits throughout the week. Celebrate when they fill their chart!
10. Dramatic Bible Stories
Act out Bible stories that demonstrate each fruit. For example, Joseph showing forgiveness (love) to his brothers, or David showing patience waiting to become king.
